Drug Offences Involving Controlled Drugs

There are several drug offences which involve controlled drugs. The most common drug offences are as follows:

  • Possession of a controlled drug
  • Possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply
  • Supply of a controlled drug
  • Production or cultivation of a controlled drug
  • Importation of controlled drugs

The seriousness of the offence not only depends upon the extent of a person’s involvement, such as possession or supply, but also the categorisation of the controlled drug. There are 3 “classes” ranging from A to C, with class A being the most serious, which could result in life imprisonment.

  • Class A - includes Ecstasy, Cocaine, Heroin and Crack Cocaine
  • Class B - includes all types of Cannabis, Amphetamines and Benzodiazepines
  • Class C - includes Ketamine, Tramadol, Oxycodone and Anabolic Steroids
